St. John's Church is blessed with an active and enthusiastic Christian Education program. We invite you to join us any Sunday, September through May, at 10am in the Parish Hall. The children and young adults join the congregation before Eucharist to participate with the church family.

Philosophy: We believe in offering a child-centered, family friendly Christian Formation program for today's families. We incorporate scripture, art, music, drama, outreach, Episcopal theology and fellowship. There is no charge for any of our Sunday Church School programs.

Church School registration is any Sunday from September through early June in the Parish Hall. We have classes from Pre-K through Young Teens. We also have a Youth Group and Confirmation classes. Visitors are welcome. Spread the word about our Church School to family, friends and neighbors. Anyone interested in the Church School may contact Jeanne Danton, Director of Christian Education, via e-mail: st.johns_arlington@verizon.net or by phone at 781-648-4819.

Church School Teacher Sign Up is always in progress. Jeanne Danton will be leading a children‘s chapel style approach to hearing the weekly stories together. Teachers will break off into small groups to explore age appropriate activities to reinforce the messages presented. Teaching commitments are for 6 week units. You can sign up for one or more units. We also can accommodate coverage if you need a week off during your unit.

Parishioners without children in the program are encouraged to sign-up as well as parents of Church School students. To sign-up to teach contact Jeanne Danton, Director of Christian Education, via e-mail: st.johns_arlington@verizon.net or by phone at 781-648-4819.

Adult Christian Education

Philosophy: We offer opportunities for spiritual growth and reflection through a variety of offerings both seasonal and situational that are open to all.

Seasonal: Book Groups - Each season of the Church calendar we chose a spiritual book to study individually, then come together to discuss as a group.

Situational:
Jericho Bible Study Group - is our current program for Adults who want to explore the Bible with others in community.

Other groups and events evolve throughout the year, driven by parishioner interest. Past events have included intergenerational worship, spiritual music performances and fellowship events.

Curriculum: Middle School through High School

St. John's offers supplemental, customized activities to allow children in this age group the opportunity to explore their specific areas of interest and spiritual development. This includes Youth Group activities, worship, social events, formation, outreach and Confirmation classes.

Additional:

St. John's Church School also offers weekly music exploration, a Christmas Pageant, and outreach experiences in a safe and nurturing environment where every child is given a place to explore their faith through their individual gifts and talents as part of our church family.

St. John's Church School invites children and adults alike into an all-inclusive, all embracing celebration of community that has a place for them and supports them in their spiritual journey as we grow closer to God together!

Curriculum: Pre-K - 5th Grade

Weaving God's Promises
(from the Weaving God's Promises Website)

Weaving God's Promises is a three-year Christian education program for children ages 3 years (preschool) to 11-12 (5th-6th grade). The curriculum was developed and written exclusively for the Episcopal Church. It's titled Weaving God's Promises after the process of faith formation in which we learn how God's promises of salvation are inextricably woven into our lives.

The goal of Weaving God's Promises is to teach children the way of Christ, not only in the church but also in the world, and to give them a solid grounding for future youth formation programs, which in turn will prepare them for Christian adulthood.

Weaving God's Promises provides children with basic knowledge of Church teachings in the three elements essential to the practice of our faith.

Each is dependent on the other in order for the faith to stand firmly:
1. Christian Education
2. Worship
3. Service
